While it is possible to teach and learn calligraphy or create a faux-calligraphic hand quickly, the heart of calligraphy is often missed by rushing the learning process. In my experience, Calligraphy as a meditative art is best savored in slow motion.
For this reason, Calligraphy Studies in 2019 will offer students a time of slowing down in learning calligraphy and bring back the heart. Whether you take just one session in 2019 or take many courses, my intention is that these classes give us all an opportunity to leave the hustle bustle of our daily modern lives outside of our Scriptorium to be 'in-joy' as letter.
Calligraphy classes are held on Mondays and run in six week sessions. Classes are all open levels classes and size is limited to 12 students, allowing plenty of individualized instruction. As students advance in their skills, they will learn how to address envelopes and create pieces for displaying and gift giving. Aspiring Scribes can choose from pointed pen styles - Copperplate, Spencerian or Modern - or broad edged styles - Italic, Blackletter, Uncial and many more! Intermediate and Advanced students will receive assistance working on the projects of their choice or acquiring new hands.
