VIEWS OF THE FARM
Fiona, the baby squirrel, is fed a bit of warm milk by Sr. Emmanuel. Fiona was orphaned and arrived on our doorstep in the hands of a school parent and some children who found her on the playground.
We will feed Fiona and teach her to eat squirrel food as soon as she is old enough, and then she will rejoin her relatives in the forest.
If you see a baby animal in the wild, its parents probably know it is there and are taking care of it. They should be left alone. However, Fiona was an exception, so we will keep her healthy until she is old enough to fend on her own.
In the meantime, we have certainly enjoyed her squirrel antics and terrific appetite!

The season is long gone, but the fall leaf collection by the school offered this unusual sight; the leaf blowers were just behind the building on the right, so these leaves looked like they were dancing all over on their own.
As the Earth rolls toward the sun, it casts its shadow onto the atmosphere to the west.
At this time last year the late afternoon sun illuminated the maple trees along the road out front. This year one of the school families contributed "official" metal sugaring buckets to replace the plastic ones we collected from a local market. [See picture below for this year's sugaring operation.]
We finally managed to accomplish some long overdue house-cleaning, by disposing of several chairs and tables that were much the worse for wear. Sr. Carol Bernice and Bill Consiglio not only hauled them to the dumpster, but also arranged them and took this candid "spiritual direction in progress" photo.
This year the buckets along the road are shiny new metal ones, with the Melrose School and Bluestone Farm stickers to identify them to passers-by.
